Wow. This week has been so rich in novelties that we would hesitate to add more for fear of bursting. After long anticipating the releases of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Persona 5 Royal on Switch, who would have thought the drama of Bayonetta 3 would overshadow all of that? Hey, welcome to the world of Nintendo!
In addition to keeping all your lovely readers up to date on all the twists and turns of the aforementioned voiceover dispute, we’ve been busy ranking every Mario Party title ahead of the release of the first two games on the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. months, and breaking down all new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet mons into levels (completely factual and objective, of course).
We also managed to get our hands on some brand new games this week. From the immensely enjoyable Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Persona 5 Royal, to the less than enjoyable Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway.
Here’s hoping this weekend is less drama filled so we’ll all have time for some great gaming time. Below, a bunch of our writers have shared their game plans for the days ahead and we’d like you to you do the same! Read it, then be sure to leave a comment below to let us know what you’re playing this weekend.

The Nintendo gods looked down on me this week. I finished the tunic last weekend (great sadness) and then had to renew my NSO membership this week (also great sadness), but I opted for the expansion pack this time and I’m leaving for the weekend so I have two long train journeys ahead of me (great pleasure)!
All this newfound power means I’ll definitely be playing a few N64 titles. At the risk of sounding like a literal child, the N64 came out before I was born, so there are a lot of holes in my knowledge that I want to fill. I’m thinking of starting with F-Zero X and Banjo-Kazooie before diving into Star Fox 64.
Sure, the power may go straight to my head and I’ll end up playing Ocarina of Time for the 200th time, but would that really be a terrible thing? Yes, that would be Jim, you should play different games.

Being a complete WH40K nut, I look forward to spending some quality time with Warhammer 40,000: Shootas, Blood & Teef. October is coming to a close, but not without two more stellar AAA releases in the past week that I hope to find time to enjoy: the highly anticipated and rumored Persona 5 Royal (my first time with the game!) and the charming new Antics from Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. Add in my ongoing SD Gundam Battle Alliance campaign and I’m pretty sure this weekend won’t meet all of the video game-related scheduled tasks.
The game of the week is (still!) NieR: Automata. The game has been living rent-free in my head since its release. So happy for this stellar conversion.

This weekend, I’m going to be playing something that I absolutely (sort of) don’t need to play again – Persona 5 Royal. I already beat the vanilla Persona 5 on PS4, but didn’t catch Royal when it came out, so I really want to know if the changes make it an even better game. I won’t have much time to make a good dent in history, but I’m still looking forward to seeing Shujin Academy in Tokyo again.
I’m also going to pick up Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope for some nice, lighthearted fun. I don’t mind the easier difficulty (I suck at strategy games!), nor the lack of multiplayer. I really want to play something silly and colorful. I guess Persona 5 also fits this folder!

Listen… You know what I’m playing this weekend. You all do. Resident Evil 4. How could I not?! After watching the amazing gameplay demo for the upcoming remake (not coming to Switch, obviously), I was drawn in, Again, to a game that just brings me endless joy and happiness. I don’t know if I should take my time and experience the game as it was intended before the remake launched, or just run straight through it with a quick run. We will see…
Elsewhere, I played a bit of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze; one of the best platform games ever made, without a doubt. It’s great to dive back into it, because I haven’t touched it for a good few years. Whether I finish it this weekend is another story.

This weekend, I’m going to watch my partner complete Virtue’s final reward, play a ton of Disney Dreamlight Valley, and complete Limbo (which I really don’t want to do, ugggggggggggggggggggggggg).
But! I also wanted to give a shout out to a PC game that I want to recommend. It’s called The Case of the Golden Idol, and if you liked Return of the Obra Dinn, you should definitely give it a try. I finished it in a few hours, but I was really impressed!!
We hope you enjoyed reading! Be sure to leave us a comment below with your weekend game plans!
