Why The Watcher’s Ending Left Netflix Viewers ‘Disappointed’

‘Officially the worst ending I’ve ever seen’ SPOILER: Netflix viewers are ‘disappointed’ by ending reveal in new horror series The Watcher

Netflix viewers have been furious at the “disappointing” ending to new horror series The Watcher.

The seven-episode series tells the real-life story of a couple who were stalked out of their dream home by a creepy stalker – and whose identities remain a mystery to this day.

It stars Naomi Watts, 52, and Bobby Cannavale, 51, as a married couple who have just moved into their dream home only to find themselves targeted by a stalker, as well as Jennifer Coolidge, 61, as as a real estate agent who sells the property to them.

After moving into the house in New Jersey, at 657 Boulevard, the couple receive encrypted and threatening letters from The Watcher, who wants to force them out of their house.

They seem to have put the mystery to bed when Theodora (Noma Dumezweni), the private detective they had hired, confesses to being The Watcher.

Schuyler claims to be a former occupant of the house who wanted them moved out so she could return.

However, it is later revealed that the terminally ill neighbor lied and was simply trying to shut down the family before she died.

The pair have no choice but to move on, leaving the mystery of The Watcher’s identity unsolved – as he remains in real life.

Fans took to social media to complain about the lack of resolution at the end of the series, with many calling it “unnecessary”.

‘I just finished The Watcher. I know it’s based on a true story, but that ending made the whole series an absolute waste of time,” one user said.

“I’m not mad at the ending of #TheWatcher like everyone else is. In fact, I think there’s something haunting about that ending and that makes it special.
