We’re still waiting for Apple’s October product launch rumors to happen. But if and when they do, it looks like they’ll be all about the new iPads and Macs.
Leaked from Twitter Dohyun Kim (opens in a new tab) says we’ll see new iPad and iPad Pro models, along with new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros and a refreshed Mac mini, by the end of October. This lines up with other Apple rumors we’ve heard, so the consensus among tech prognosticators still seems to be that Apple will launch new tablets and computers this month.
October Apple Product Rumors (Updated October 16)
Apple will launch – 10.2″ iPad (10th generation) – 11″ iPad Pro with M2 – 12.9″ iPad Pro with M2 – 14″ MacBook Pro – 16″ MacBook Pro – Mac mini with M2 this month!!October 12, 2022
iPad 2022 (10.2 inch)
First, there should be a standard 2022 iPad, which might be the most notable update of all the new products. It’s rumored to be getting a major overhaul in line with the modern, flat look of the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini, including a much bigger screen and USB-C.
But since Apple now thinks it’ll only announce this batch of products via press release rather than at an event, it would be odd to introduce such a major change without fanfare.
iPad Pro 2022
The other tablet to watch will be the 2022 iPad Pro. It is rumored to be moving from the current Apple M1 chip to a new Apple M2 chip like the MacBook Air M2 and 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 from earlier this year. Apart from that, rumors of wireless charging and a new smart connector have also been circulating.
Of course, new iPads will run the new iPadOS 16 out of the box, with the new Stage Manager feature for improved multitasking. Apple is reportedly tweaking this and other features behind the scenes and we’re still expecting the launch sometime this month.
14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro
Moving on to laptops, it’s been widely predicted that we’ll see new MacBook Pros along with the M2 Pro models this month. These could only differ from the existing 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro with their new chips, which are expected to be titled M2 Pro and M2 Max, which will build on the M2’s improved architecture with more CPU cores. and GPU for pro-level performance.
Overall, the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro are some of the best laptops out there, thanks to their already fast performance and long battery life. And we appreciate the full suite of ports that include HDMI and an SD card slot. So Apple doesn’t need to reinvent the wheel here.
mac mini 2022 with M2
For desktops, we could also see a 2022 Mac mini with a standard M2 chip to replace the Mac mini M1 that arrived in late 2020. So the biggest change might just be more power.
Leaker Jon Prosser claimed in May that the next Mac mini could be smaller and sport more ports. Specifically, he claimed it will feature the same magnetic charging connector that comes with the new 2021 24-inch iMac, along with four Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A ports, plus Ethernet and HDMI ports.
However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now predicts that the new Mac mini won’t be refreshed when it arrives.
macOS Ventura and iPad OS 16
Two other things we might see as part of this announcement set are macOS Ventura and iPadOS 16. The latest version of the Mac and iPad operating systems have been delayed from their planned September release, presumably to give Apple more time to iron out the issues. Even if the products discussed above don’t end up appearing, Apple has already confirmed October releases for the new macOS and iPadOS releases.
