Stray Kids is second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with “Maxident”

Stray Kids recorded their second No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 – and the second of 2022 – as MAXIDENT debuts atop the list (as of October 22). The eight-track set bows with 117,000 equivalent album units earned in the US in the week ending October 13, according to Luminate. The South Korean group snagged its first chart-topper on the April 2 list, with its debut charting effort, ODDINARY.

Both ODDINARY and MAXIDENT were released via JYP/Imperial/Republic Records.

Maxident is the fourth album by a South Korean group to lead the Billboard 200 in 2022, after that of BLACKPINK born pinkBTS Evidence and ODDINARY. In 2021, there were no No. 1s by a South Korean act, and in 2020, there were two (BTS’ Soul Card: 7 and BE).

Also in the top 10 of the new Billboard 200, Takeoff and Quavo’s collaborative album, Designed for Infinity Links onlydebuts at No. 7, G Herbo’s Survivor’s Remorse: Side A bows at No. 9, and Charlie Puth’s Charly debuted at No. 10.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the United States based on multimetric consumption measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units include album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals 1 album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 official ad-supported audio and video streams or 1,250 paid/on-demand subscription generated songs from a album. Of MAXIDENTThe 117,000 equivalent album units earned, album sales include 110,000, SEA units include 7,000 (equivalent to 9.61 million official on-demand streams of all eight tracks in the set), and TEA units include a negligible sum.

by MAXIDENT 110,000 sold marks the fourth-biggest sales week for any album in 2022. Of that, 97% were CD sales (107,000), while 3% were digital album sales (3,000). The set was not available in any other configuration (such as vinyl LP or cassette).

The album’s CD configuration was released in collector’s packages (10 in total, including exclusive variants for Barnes & Noble, Target, and the band’s official online store), each with a standard set of paper goods internals and random items (such as photo cards, mini posters and stickers). CD sales were also aided by autographed editions sold through the act’s online store.

MAXIDENT drops to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 just six months and three weeks later ODDINARY open at the top of the list. The last act with a shorter wait between new No. 1s was Young Thug, with six months between the Young Stoner Life: Slime Language 2 (credited on chart to Young Thug & Various Artists; May 1, 2021, chart) and Punk (October 30, 2021). The last act with a shorter wait between No. 1s excluding those co-billed with a cast of various artists was Taylor Swift, who waited less than four months between the first weeks at No. 1 for Still (December 26, 2020) and Fearless (Taylor version) (April 24, 2021). The last group to have a shorter wait between No. 1s was BTS, with only three months and one week between its first two No. 1s: Do you love: tear (June 2, 2018) and Do you love yourself: answer (8 September 2018).

ODDINARY and MAXIDENT are Stray Kids’ first two albums to chart on the Billboard 200. Thus, the group maintains a perfect record on the list, landing No. 1 albums with its first two entries. Stray Kids made their overall ranking Billboard chart debut in 2017 on the World Digital Song Sales chart (which ranks the top-selling digital world music songs of the week) and landed their first entry on a Billboard album charts in 2018 with mix tape. In 2018-21, the act racked up 10 top 10 albums on Billboard‘s World Albums chart (which ranks the most popular world music titles of the week). Stray Kids did not reach the Billboard 200 all genres with no releases until April with ODDINARYwhich marked the act’s first release in the United States through JYP’s partnership with Imperial/Republic.

MAXIDENT is mostly in Korean, but includes a fair amount of English lyrics. Notably, it is the 16th mostly non-English language album to reach No. 1 and the fourth in 2022. Earlier in the year, there were mostly non-English No. 1s from BTS, mostly Korean. Evidenceall Spanish from Bad Bunny A summer without you and the predominantly Korean ODDINARY.

While Stray Kids has yet to land a song on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart (via the most recently released list, dated October 15), the group landed a trio of songs on the Billboard Global 200. and six on the Billboard. Mondial 200 Excl. American balance sheet. The act last appeared on both lists with the ODDINARY single “Maniac”, peaking at numbers 21 and 15 respectively.

Bad Bunny’s A summer without you drops to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 after 13 non-consecutive weeks atop the chart (76,000 equivalent album units earned; down 9%).

Beyoncé’s former number 1 Renaissance rallies 6-3 with 75,000 equivalent album units (up 145%) following the wide release of its vinyl album on October 7.

Morgan Wallen chart topper Dangerous: the double album plunges 3-4 on the Billboard 200 with 46,000 equivalent album units earned (down less than 1%).

Dangerous: the double album has now accumulated 91 non-consecutive weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. He now has only the fifth most weeks in the top 10 of any album since the chart began publishing on a regular weekly basis in March 1956. The all- top 10 record holder is the original cast recording of my lovely lady, with 173 weeks in the top 10 between 1956-60. See the list, below.

The Weeknd Compilation The strong points fell 4-5 on the Billboard 200 with 40,000 equivalent album units earned (up 1%), while former frontman Harry Styles Harry’s house moves 5-6 with 34,000 (down 1%).

Collaborative ensemble of Takeoff and Quavo, Designed for Infinity Links only, bows to No. 7 with 33,500 equivalent album units earned. Of that, SEA units include 31,000 (equivalent to 41.13 million official on-demand streams of all 18 tracks in the set), album sales include 2,000, and TEA units include 500. of the second set of top 10 rankings for Takeoff (after The last rocketn°4 in 2018) and the second for Quavo (after Quavo HunchoNo. 2, also in 2018).

Takeoff and Quavo also make up two-thirds of Migos, which recorded three top 10s, including a pair of No. 1s in Culture and Cultivation II (respectively in 2017 and 2018). The third member of Migos, Offset, is due to release a solo album on November 11. He has already recorded two top 10s on the Billboard 200 (Without warning, with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, No. 4 in 2017; and Father of 4, No. 4 in 2019). As for Migos, the act is on indefinite hiatus.

G Herbo lands his third top 10 album on the Billboard 200 with the No. 9 debut of Survivor’s Remorse: Side A, which starts with 27,500 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, SEA units comprise 27,000 (equivalent to 36.44 million official on-demand streams of the tracks in the set), album sales comprise 500 units, and TEA units represent a negligible sum. The project was originally released as a standard 12-track album on October 7 and was re-released in deluxe form on October 10 with an additional 13 tracks (dubbed Survivor’s remorse: side A and side B).

Charlie Puth completes the top 10 of the new Billboard 200 with his third full album, Charlywhich bows to No. 10. All three of its full studio projects debuted in the top 10. The new set begins with 26,500 equivalent album units earned, including 16,000 SEA units (equivalent to 21.26 million official on-demand streams of all 12 tracks in the set), album sales include 9,500 and TEA units include 1,000.

Charly was preceded by a pair of top 30 hits on the Billboard Hot 100: “Light Switch” and “Left and Right,” the latter featuring Jung Kook (of BTS).
